Fifax, whose real name is Philippe Vermeulen, was born in Paris and has lived there for almost 40 years. His first paintings of Luxembourg's capital marked the beginning of his first creations. Far from being satisfied with his native city, he has travelled extensively around the world. From the Elysée Palace to Manhattan, from Hong Kong to the world of Gustave Eiffel, including two Atlantic crossings, Fifax presents ‘his new universes’ on canvases.
His works are dominated by skies, futuristic images from a playful imagination, metropolises revisited in a poetic realism. With great curiosity, Fifax redesigns the great cities between light and shadow, with an important element of imagination in this reality. His Luxembourg adventure began in 1996, when he discovered the Grand Duchy and its landscapes of tall ovens, bridges and towers. These landscapes offered the artist a journey into an utopian world.
His attachment to Luxembourg has endured as a result of his almost 30-year collaboration with the Schortgen gallery and the loyalty of many Luxemburgish collectors.
