Born in 1978 in Medina del Campo, a small town in Spain's Castilla region, Laura Nieto grew up in an environment awash with bright, warm coulours that strongly influenced her early work. In 2009, she moved to Berlin, a city that brought another dimension to her creations with her imaginary and themes taking a turn towards urban scenes. The coulours became darker and more artificial. Through suggestive strokes, she sketches her observations of street and café scenes, as well conversations and glances that intersect. Beauty is found in chance encounters during a night walk while the illuminated rooms of cafés, restaurants and bars open up like theatre sets. Silhouettes remain in the shadows, resembling actors performing a scene known only to them.
